GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsible for assisting the dentist in providing high quality dental care for Western Sierra Dental Clinic patients with the goal of patient learning to prevent dental disease.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Under General Supervision of a Dental Provider:
- Mouth mirror inspection of oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth.
- Placement and removal of temporary sedative dressings.
- Cleans and prepares operatory for each patient visit.
- Maintains clean and safe working environment, including compliance with OSHA infection control standards as well as the Clinic's infection control program.
- Under Direct Supervision of a Dental Provider:
- Remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument or floss.
- Coronal polish, following the determination by dental provider that the teeth to be polished are free of calculus or other extraneous material.
- Fabrication of temporary crowns intra-orally.
- Take bite registrations for diagnostic models for case study only.
- Operation of dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiography.
- Place and remove rubber dams.
- Under General Supervision of the Dental Supervisor:
- Coordinates scheduling of patients with the receptionist and dentist in accordance with Western Sierra Dental Clinic scheduling protocols.
- Coordinates patient flow.
- Supervises and coordinates training of Dental Assistants.
- Inventories and orders dental supplies.
- Attends staff meeting.
- Answers telephone, takes messages as needed.
- Schedules patients in accordance with Dental Clinic policies and procedures as needed.
- Documents all pertinent information in patient's electronic medical record according to Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures.
- Upholds Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Quality Improvement Duties:
- Participates in quality improvement activities;
- Participates as assigned in interdepartmental quality improvement team efforts; and
- Contributes to overall Community Health Center efforts in quality improvement towards higher-quality, more cost-effective health care for patients and improved quality of work-life for staff members.
- Other duties as assigned.
The hourly wage range for this position is $23.00 - 26.00.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Requires graduation from a recognized Dental Assisting program.
- Certification as a Dental Assistant is preferred.
- BLS for the Health Care Provider or equivalent CPR class is required at hire and to be maintained throughout employment.
- Bilingual (preferably Spanish) preferred.
Desired Experience
- Familiarity with an electronic practice management system.
- Computer literate (i.e. logging on to computer, usage of keyboard and mouse, familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).
- Ability to type 45 wpm.
