A plating process engineer oversees, optimizes, and troubleshoots chemical and electroplating manufacturing operations. They manage bath chemistry, control parameters like current and temperature, improve product yields, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety rules.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of electroplating, electroless plating, etching, and wet chemistry.
  • Analytical Tools: Proficiency in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Six Sigma methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Process Optimization: Adjust bath formulas, voltage, and cycle times to achieve uniform metal thickness and prevent defects.
  • Troubleshooting: Lead root cause analysis for yield losses, surface defects, or equipment failures using tools like SPC and FMEA.
  • Quality & Compliance: Maintain chemical safety standards, monitor wastewater treatment, and adhere to environmental regulations (such as RoHS and REACH).
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Qualify new plating lines, materials, or equipment setups.
