The Controls Engineer – Sustaining position is a critical role that bridges the gap between field support and R&D Controls engineering. The person in this position will provide valuable and timely remote support for Targan field personnel working at various customer sites. In addition, the Controls Engineer – Sustaining will also serve as a conduit for further refinement of the controls and electrical systems that comprise Targan machinery.

  • Candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot remote PLCs via network connection.
  • Candidate must have a generalized understanding of troubleshooting electro-mechanical machinery.
  • A competent understanding of Ethernet networks is essential.
  • Be able to read and understand schematic diagrams, line drawings, etc.
  • A baseline understanding of industrial controls languages such as ladder, structured text, function block diagram.
  • A baseline understanding of Human Machine Interface (HMI) software, reading tags from a PLC, and similar.
  • Ability to log into PLC and HMI systems if necessary to help troubleshoot remote systems.
  • Good communications: working with field technical personnel, engineers, and others.

Requirements

Education:

· Ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science or similar. Persons with associate degrees, or no degree will be considered based on experience.

Experience:

· Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in an engineering support role. In lieu of support experience, work in a production environment producing industrial machinery or similar will be considered. Candidates that don’t meet the education requirements but have more experience will be considered.


Additional Qualifications:

  • Can work a reliable schedule – required.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team – required.
  • Understanding of industrial fieldbus systems such as EtherCat or Modbus TCP – preferred.
  • Ability to program HMI and/or PLC systems – preferred.
  • Familiarity with schematic design software such as AutoCad Electrical or Solidworks Electrical to assist with device modifications – preferred.

Working Conditions

This position requires (check all that apply):

Normal periods of sitting and standing in an office environment.

Extended periods of sitting at a workstation/desk in an office environment.

Extended period of standing.

Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis

Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.

Working with heavy machinery or equipment on X regular occasional basis.

Working outdoors in potentially inclement weather conditions.

Working at heights of up to feet.

Working in a laboratory setting.

Working with birds or other animals.

Other:

Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business) and customer sites (hatcheries).
